Split rivets are an easy and affordable way to attach hardware to your woodworking projects.  The TKR-12 can be used when the wood and hardware combined thickness is 7/32’’ or slightly thicker.  This will allow the prongs to be bent over securing your hardware.  Split rivets can also be used s a decorative touch on trunks and boxes.

Our steel trunk nails have been produced on machinery in constant use since the Civil War!  If you are looking for authenticity you have found it.  From the beginning of steamer trunk production, these nails were used to secure all the hardware that protects and makes the trunk functional.  Historically these nails were driven through the wood against an iron causing the tip to curl under inside the wood.  This method of attachment made the nails nearly impossible to remove.  If you have large projects or resell these nails we offer a 10# bag, TKN-1SQ, at a greatly reduced price.  Also available with brass plating, TKN-1.

The TKN-12 is a brass-plated steel nail with a huge head.  The head resembles a button and was used on Jenny Lind and Saratoga trunks produced in the middle 1800’s.  The nail is designed to look decorative and not generally used to attach hardware.  A perfect historic touch to your next wood working project.
